You may recognize Jakara from a couple of years ago- she was one of my very first spokesmodels for senior portraits when she was not quite a senior in high school. This year she’s graduating, and her and her mom stopped back by for some new photos of her in her senior year.
Jakara has grown a lot in the couple of years since we last took photos, and her excitement for graduation and college are pretty obvious. We started in the studio to do a few pictures with her cap and gown to get something a little more traditional for mom. We then added a little bit of flare from the traditional as seen above- senior portraits don’t have to be the same old boring thing that you’re used to.
Documenting this time of life is extremely important, and I’m glad we were able to get some updated senior portraits for Jakara before graduation. Of course, the cap and gown photos don’t tell the story of who a senior really is. Well, unless they go all out and wear their cap and gown often throughout the year. But I doubt it. In addition to the more traditional style photos, to me senior portraits are about showcasing the personality of the senior and letting them really have fun. After finishing up inside, we headed outdoors.
I love shooting in the courtyard of this church around the corner. The light is always great, and the surroundings are very photogenic. And Jakara really did an awesome job. She’s really a pro, and made my job easy. Within just a couple of blocks downtown, you can get a variety of looks that are all stunning. I always love to get outside to shoot senior portraits (or any other portraits) whenever I can.
I also always make it a point to use those vines. There’s something about it that comes alive in photos. Whenever I point out the bush to folks, they’re usually skeptical… until I show them the back of my camera.
Then we drove up to the underpass across from the fire department and got a great iconic shot of Henderson. The clock tower in the background is always recognizable. Not only is it a central icon for Henderson, but it’s just a really cool building.
Looking Ahead
